I offer two main types of service, ‘Sketch-only’ and ‘Full Architectural’ support;
There are projects where a full architectural service may not be appropriate, but where an architect’s ‘eye’ at an early stage can bring a huge benefit. Typically this might apply to smaller domestic projects, or where a client may simply want an early day’s overview of a property’s potential before moving forwards with any project at all.
For this reason I offer a sketch only service, charged at an hourly rate.
This allows the flexibility to tailor my time to address whatever priorities a client may have, be it a whole house strategy, thoughts on an extension, moving a stair, perhaps just a window seat!
My experience is that this service can prove invaluable to clients as it gives them an enhanced brief, with sketches, that can then be developed with a good architectural technician and/or builder to gain the necessary approvals.
Deciding on appropriate technologies for a project can be a daunting task, with impartial advice often hard to obtain. With a new building the choice of materials, orientation, and building form can all be developed at an early stage to maximise the environmental performance and ultimate carbon footprint of the finished building. With existing structures however it is necessary to balance often conflicting factors eg aesthetic alterations, conservation constraints, existing materials and construction details, appropriate services and of course cost.
My task is to liaise with the client to achieve the optimum design and practical solution both in relation to environmental responsibility and my client's broader requirements and budget. I work with an experienced architectural technician with a passion for sustainable construction, and we ensure that the environmental approach to each project is developed through a balanced, holistic view of the client's needs.
